WHY THIS APP:

Workaholism and sitting too long aren't good for health. Tech and office workers are most susceptible to this type of work-related hazard. Having worked by the computer for months, this App developer realized that it is very hard to take a break from the computer. Presumed timers for a break, whether on iPad or on Google Home, are often started and then ignored. Most often timers are not even started at all. There is clearly a disconnect between intentions and results.

Subsequently, the idea of a timer App came up. A timer that connects? It has to be simple and easy to use; it would be better if you don't have to set it, it just tells; it would be even better if everything is peaceful and musical, especially with some sounds from nature. But first let's have a workaholism test.

A review of the research on brain, stress and cortisol is then presented to lay out the reasons for a timely break. The main point is: while giving people control and power, cortisol inhibits other critical bodily functions, including digestion and immune functions.

HOW TO USE THIS APP:

First test yourself on the five basic properties of workaholism. Then, use some information from the review of scientific research on brain, stress and cortisol (in Upgrade) to see how daily activities measure up to science. The timer can be used for work or home as a reminder to take a mindful break.

For the workaholism test, select your level of each attribute from 0 - 10. Research has shown that workaholism is the ultimate stressor and inducer of cortisol. Since the first two attributes are most critical for the definition of workaholism, they earn 40 points if selected level is 10. "Love of work" can partially alleviate the health concerns of workaholism, so it earns negative 20 points if selected level is 10. The other two attributes are also often associated with workaholism and earn 10 points if selected level is 10.
